Where do I even begin?? It's Thanksgiving, and I spent the majority of my morning in excruciating pain, vomiting, and crying. Then I spent my afternoon at my doctor's office hooked up to an IV. The most I got done, in between all of this, was prepping the turkey for dinner.
It turns out that I developed a late-onset of moderate OHSS. My doctor had me come in today to do an ultrasound and determined that my ovaries are enlarged, surrounded by tons of fluid, and the fluid has been spilling into my abdomen. On a severity scale of 1-10, I'm at a 7. This is why I suddenly became so bloated and have been experiencing terrible pains. It all happened so quickly.
I was completely fine. Then on Tuesday, I had what I thought were bad gas pains. It felt like the worst gas pain or trapped gas I'd ever felt in my life. After about 8-10 minutes, it subsided, and I was fine for the rest of the day.
Then yesterday, I woke up to that same terrible pain. Except this time it lasted for almost 2 hours!
Again, I thought it was gas or the beginning of a stomach virus, and I was wondering why the Gas-X and ginger tea I was taking weren't helping. I had to call out of work, and I just took it easy. But by the afternoon, I was very bloated and I couldn't even stand up straight. It was a rough day. Then it dawned on me that this could possibly be OHSS.
Sure enough, I had many of the symptoms. I had just never heard of late onset.
This morning, I woke up in excruciating pain again. This time was much worse, which I didn't think was possible. The pain was causing me to throw up, and this went on for probably 2 hours, until I finally broke down crying.l was NOT okay. | got in touch with my doctor, and she had me come in.
Now here we are. I will go back on Saturday to check the fluid, and if it's worse, she will have to drain it. This is not something I ever considered as a possibility, especially so late in the game. I was told that this might continue for another week or two
Since I was already there, my doctor had me go ahead and draw blood for my beta test. We will have those results tomorrow morning.
